The Greatest Show on Earth

by Jennie on March 29, 2011

A few weeks ago we took Cody to the circus, the greatest show on earth, for the first time! I was excited for MONTHS about going and we talked to Cody about it for weeks before we actually went. Every morning he would ask “circus today”?? One of my fondest memories as a kid is going to the circus every year with my family. I absolutely LOVED it growing up and was just as amazed year after year from the wonderful acts they had throughout the show.

The day finally arrived and all three of us were so excited to go. You can show up an hour early and go on the ground floor to see the animals and some of the acts. They also have crafts for the kids and costumes they can try on and play around with. This is totally free with the purchase of your tickets!!! We did not get a seat for Cody because we figured he would prefer sitting on our laps (which he did). Once the show started, Cody’s eyes were fixated on everything he saw and he did not squirm or complain one time!! He LOVED it! He was pointing and naming everything and asking what certain things were. He literally gasped when he saw some of the acts! It was adorable!! I think Steve and I had more fun than him just because we got such a kick out of him loving it so much! It was really amazing to share such a special moment with my son and his daddy … something that I have held so close to my heart as a childhood memory. It really was one of my most favorite things we have celebrated as a family. We will absolutely be doing this as an annual tradition!!

Some things to consider if you go:

  • You can save money if you order a few months in advance. I was able to get 15-20% off (can’t remember which) our ticket price by ordering before the end of Jan.
  • If your child is young enough, you don’t have to order them a seat because they can sit on your lap. HOWEVER, if you have jackets, diaper bags, purses etc. the extra seat is nice just to store your things on!
  • Cody likes to snack around the clock!! I did pack his sippy cup and snack cup for the show. They do check your bags and didn’t say anything to me, but you can tell them your child is on a special diet if you need to bring a few special things for the little ones.
  • The souvenirs are expensive so ask Grandma or Grandpa for some money before you go (lol, j/k)!!
  • If you are looking for something really special you can pay a little more to have your kids participate in the show! WOW- that would be exciting!
  • If you are going to go to the free hour before, get to the arena early because the line gets long and they don’t open the door until it is at the hour before the show.

After the fact, Cody still talks about the circus and all the things he saw! It is so adorable :) What are you favorite family traditions??

CUTE! Glad you had fun! We will go next year! We had a similar experience at Disney Stars on Ice with Ava! Isn't 2 just a FUN age! My Dad bought us all tickets for the Radio City Rocketts for Christmas one year. I think she was 1 1/2 and she was obsessed with Baby Jesus! Everytime they showed him she would SCREAM "BABY JESUS, BABY JESUS". She was so adorable! I think we all watched her and not the show! She lap surfed on all of us so everyone got a turn to see the show through her eyes. :) When we were leaving the people in front of us commented that she made the show so much more exciting for them… that was a relief! She really was a cutie!
