DIY NO Sew Wolf Halloween Costume

by Jennie on November 1, 2013

I have always gotten hand-me-down costumes for the kids, but this year Cody was adamant that he wanted to be a wolf and of course, that meant Grayson would just have to be one too since he wants to be just like big brother! I went straight to pinterest to see if I could find anything quick and easy I could do and I found an ADORABLE DIY wolf costume, but it was a sewing project and I have yet to even learn how to sew on a button so that was not happening.

I thought long and hard about what I was going to do. I cruised Amazon and found some adorable Wolf hats (I included a link, but I found my hats for $3 a piece so do your research!), noses and tails for CHEAP so I ordered those and thought on how I would do the fur…. If at all!  I finally decided I would give it a go and try the sticky Velcro pieces. I am sure you could use iron on adhesive, but I thought this would be easier AND it isn’t permanent like the iron on adhesive. After Halloween, I simply peeled it off and it left NO marks on their clothes!!

I gathered old gray sweatshirts and sweatpants for the boys.  I had some gray felt from a kitchen project I had already bought months ago that I never ended up using so it was perfect for the “fur”.

If you are really good, you could just free hand cutting your felt out. I drew it on a piece of paper, made sure it fit my shirt and then traced it onto the felt. That way I didn’t use up felt if I messed it up!

Then I just cut my Velcro strips and attached to my fake fur and then attached that to the sweatshirt. So you would attach one sticky side to the felt and then attach the other Velcro piece to what you have already on the felt sticky side up so you can then attach the sticky side to the sweatshirt. It was SUPER EASY!!

Next I did the fur for around the ankles. I just free cut this and attached the same way as above.

I did the same thing with the knees.

Overall, it was SUPER EASY, cheap and only took me about an hour total for both the boys costumes. It held up beautifully for 4 different trick or treats so I was pretty pleased with that! SO… now you know that you don’t have to be handy with the needle and thread to make a really cute Halloween costume! Happy Halloween!
