Building Brands, Creating Jobs, Changing Lives

by MHSjennie on November 5, 2018

I had the opportunity to meet a man who had a vision for a company that employs people who need a job the most, while also creating great products to help the everyday consumer. Dan Meyer is the CEO of Nehemiah Manufacturing and has one amazing mission… Building Brands, Creating Jobs, Changing Lives.

Nehemiah Manufacturing

Who Are They

The name stems right from the Bible. Nehemiah was a prophet in the Old Testament who was called by God to bring safety, commerce and community back to the city of Jerusalem. Nehemiah was a great leader who cared for his people and rallied the inhabitants of Jerusalem to rebuild the walls to protect their city. Like Nehemiah, the people behind the name of this company feel called to rebuild the city by giving people jobs and a renewed hope for the future.

Why this Mission

Nehemiah is committed to bringing manufacturing jobs back to the inner city of Cincinnati to stimulate community development and economic growth. They work closely with the City of Cincinnati, community leaders and social service organizations and selected a location in the West End / Over-The-Rhine area of Cincinnati. Their building is surrounded by neighborhoods with high unemployment and limited entry-level job opportunities. They team with a number of local social service agencies in close proximity, including CityLink, St. Vincent DePaul, Jobs Plus and City Gospel Mission to identify and develop team members.

Dan Meyer has created a company that gives second chances to people who may have challenges finding employment. His employees can range from individuals with criminal records, gaps in employment, and other barriers that prohibit them from finding meaningful work.

How Do They Help

Dan and his fellow colleagues believe that everyone who works under their roof is family. They promote a positive work environment and provide whole life coaching to help improve employees’ lives.

Some examples of how generous they are with their work family

  • They have an on site social worker instead of an HR Department
  • Friday Fellowship: this is from Memorial to Labor day they grill out and give everyone a chance to get together.
  • Christmas with Santa: they have Santa come and give out gifts to all the family and the children
  • Backpack Program: they fill backpacks before school starts and give it to all the kids of the employees who work there
  • Fitness facility: they have a fitness room with showers because a lot of their employees may have to take the bus so they can workout or shower while they wait for the bus

Nehemiah Manufacturing

  • They offer onsite training and offer growth for those that want to move up in the company
  • They have a room with games and cable T.V. for the employees to relax on break. Some of them can’t afford cable, for example, so Nehemiah wants to bring those things to them

Nehemiah Manufacturing

These are just SOME of the amazing things that Nehemiah Manufacturing has committed to doing for their employees which makes them love coming to work and sets them up for workplace success!

How Can YOU Help

Nehemiah is a manufacturing company and they work with P&G and other companies to license/acquire brands and launch new product concepts. They design, manufacture, market and sell brands in a variety of product categories. When YOU purchase one of their products, you are helping to provide a job to a second chance employee!

  • Downy Ball
  • Saline Soothers
  • Downy Wrinkle Releaser
  • Kandoo
  • Boogie Wipes
  • Febreze In Wash Oder Eliminator
  • Dreft

So when we, as consumers, buy these products, that money is being used to grow Nehemiah so that they can provide even more jobs to more people who need them!

I was so impressed after talking to Dan Meyer and touring Nehemiah. Everyone is so humble and truly believes in this mission and it radiates to the employees. We are all called to help others and I am not sure there could be an easier way then adding these products to my shopping cart!
