Taking a Little Vacation from Blogging.

by MHSjennie on January 23, 2012

Hello to all our readers!! It has been close to 2 years since we started the blog!! We actually wrote our first post on April 7th 2010! We have certainly come a long way since then and have enjoyed all the things we have learned along the way.

We started the blog to journal all the fun things we were doing with the Cody and Luke and to talk about the crazy roller coaster ride through our parenting journey. We wanted to create a place of NO JUDGEMENT, a place where moms could come for a time out, to laugh, to share, to learn. We really appreciate all of you who have shared with us since the beginning and those of you who have found us along the way. Your support and courage to share your own stories with us is the reason we open our computers every day.

Since beginning, the blog has turned into more than we ever imagined. We never thought when we started this that we’d be signing LLC Partnership documents for “Surviving Motherhood” over a year ago! We have been given so many opportunities that we didn’t even know existed in the blogging world (honestly, we didn’t even know if anyone would even take the time to read our stuff!) and we are so grateful for those. We love being able to offer giveaways to you, review products that might make moms lives a little easier, spotlight mom and pop businesses and causes that don’t get the real recognition they deserve, and to bring our love of healthy cooking to other moms at our Whole Foods workshops. The list truly does go on and we don’t take any of it for granted.

With all of the amazing opportunities, comes a lot of responsibility. Blogging is totally awesome, a great outlet for us and a lot of fun, but our main goal when we started this was to work on it when we had a little down time and not take any time away from our family in the process. Well, over 2 years, it has certainly been fun, but has also turned into a business for us as well and we have dedicated a lot more time than we originally thought. With the new year rolling in, we both had resolutions to find better balance within certain aspects of our lives and that also included blogging. Just because this has become a “business” doesn’t mean that it has to be a job for us and we are striving to make some changes early on so we don’t lose sight of the joy it brings us to connect with you.

  • We are going to be cutting back on guest posts. Yes, we LOVE to be able to help other writers by getting their names out there and to offer you a variety of info on all things Mommyhood, but there is some time that goes into guest posts for us as well. We will certainly continue to post them from time to time if something catches our eye, but just not as much as we have in the past.
  • We know consistency is important to our readers and included in that is knowing when you can expect new content. For this reason we had chosen to have new posts up early each morning. We will continue to publish posts every day but it won’t always be first thing every morning.
  • Lastly, we decided to take a little time off from our sweet dear blog once every few months. We have not taken ANY time off since we started the blog. We have decided to let ourselves have a little break every now and again and for us, this starts today! We are taking this week off… no posts, other than this one of course :), and no emails. We will be officially out of the office! We hope this gives us a little R&R and some time to rejuvenate!! As much fun as blogging is, we feel it’s important to remember to keep a healthy balance so we don’t get burnt out on something we love so much.

Of course, we are ALWAYS looking for feedback, good or bad. We want you to be able to get the most out of our site so please shoot us an email and let us know if you would prefer to get your newsletter at a specific time each day vs. anytime we post or if there are things you want to see on the blog that we haven’t done. Ultimately, we want this to be a place for you to come and enjoy your few minutes of peace you might find throughout the day. We always want to hear from you so don’t hesitate to comment or send us an email!

And to say ‘Thank You’ for all your support we’d like to offer our readers a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to Target or Amazon from us. All you need to do is leave us a comment on this post answering this question: “I read Surviving Motherhood because…” and we’ll announce the winner when we come back from our blog-cation next Monday, January 30th!

I read Surviving Motherhood because… I heart Jennie & Kim of course! And I love that your posts are so helpful and judgement free! :)

And I think it's fantastic that you are taking a break. I often struggle with finding a balance as well and definitely understand how hard it is to take time off when you work from home. Good for you! Take breaks and enjoy your kiddos!

I read Surviving Motherhood for the many reasons…mommy break time! It’s nice to take that few minutes away & read what healthy ideas you have to share with others, crafts & other fun things to do at home or out and about with the kids, sharing your lives with us which helps me realize I’m not as crazy as I thought because others are going through the same thing! Those are just a few reasons why, oh, and because I love you girls!! :)

And you both deserve a much needed break! Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a vacation!!

I read Surviving Motherhood because…you have accomplished the goal of being a great place to bring mommies together to share and support without judgement. I am thrilled to hear that you two are seeking balance to spend more time with your families. My family is the most important thing in my life.
