by MHSjennie on March 28, 2018

My sister is back, sharing my nieces journey at the Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati  taking Musical Theater Medley This is her second class to take. You can read about her first experience on the blog in a 3 part series.

Musical Theatre Medley

It’s no “hard knock life” for these kids! We are halfway through Skylar’s musical theater classes at The Children’s Theater of Cincinnati and boy has she learned a lot!! I was a little nervous when the kids were given a script on day one, not just because Sky can’t read, but because I knew she’d have a lot to memorize. However, here we are halfway through and not only has she memorized 2 songs, but now she’s beginning to learn choreography to go along with the words!!

This class is definitely more fast-paced than some other classes we have taken at TCT, but the learning curve has been amazing to watch. As a parent watching through the window, it’s like watching an actual play rehearsal! The kids sing, go through the choreography, and rehearse their lines. They are also learning how to work together as a team, which is enhanced by some of the exercises they do during class. They’ll have one of the children act as narrator, while the other children have to listen and perform what they are hearing, which improves listening skills, acting skills, and teamwork skills. I truly feel like she’s learning so many lessons she’ll be able to take beyond the stage and use in life, at school, and at home! If Skylar chooses to perform in some capacity in the future this will definitely give her major building blocks to work from.

Very soon the children will begin rehearsals on the mainstage at TCT Red Bank and they could not be more excited! We are fast approaching curtain-call for our tiny actors, break a leg Skylar and sing your heart out! Stay tuned  to see how it all turns out…
