Easter is Approaching

by Jennie on April 18, 2011

Here comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down the bunny trail…..!!! Tis the season for Easter and we are getting ready for it in our house!! Besides the religious meaning this time brings to our family, it is also a time to celebrate the Easter Bunny coming!! My mom always did up easter and I want to do the same :) Here are some of the things I have planned this week to get us in the holiday spirit:

  1. Easter Craft: I bought some cute felt eggs and things to decorate it at Michaels for CHEAP! I am sure Cody will have a blast decorating his eggs with stickers, glitter, and paint!
  2. Easter Egg Hunt: I have a ton of the plastic eggs for an easter egg hunt on Easter! I found some balloons at the dollar store that I am going to put in each egg… they are actually water balloons so IF it’s warm maybe we will have some fun with that!
  3. Visiting the Easter Bunny at the Mall: As I am sure you have experienced, you never know how this one is going to turn out! They either love him or are scared to death so we shall see how C-man reacts this year!
  4. Easter Egg Decoration Kit: I found one for $1 at the Dollar Store and it has a cute little crayon you can write on the eggs with that shows little messages! I also bought a bunch of easter stickers (Micaels for a buck) so he can decorate the eggs with those as well.
  5. Easter Basket: Some places for great little basket stuffers (more for the little ones)- Target dollar bins, Michaels dollar bins, Dollar Store!! One REALLY fun thing my mom did in my house growing up with the Easter baskets was a scavenger hunt to find where the Easter Bunny hid our baskets. I LOVED IT! So my plan this year is to have an egg outside of Cody’s room in the morning with a note of where to go next and leave eggs with notes throughout the house until he gets to the Easter Basket. Hope he loves it as much as I did as a kid :)

Cody Bear Easter 2010

With all of that being said I may try and make some Easter Inspired Recipes to celebrate! I found two FREE ebooks! One with 35 Easter Recipes and another with 17 recipes to get you in the holiday spirit! I am FOR SURE making an Easter Bunny cake that my mom use to do with us every year- it is ADORABLE!! The bunny’s hair is made with coconut and Steve hates coconut so I am going to try to sub it out and we will see if it turns out as cute as my mamas cake!!

I will keep you posted how it all goes and will upload some pics of the crafts and cake to facebook so you can see how it turns out! What are your favorite Easter traditions??

Check out target, michaels and the dollar store. They have SO much stuff for cheap!! The dollar store had a ton of little easter baskets you could fill with plenty of non edible goodies!! (J)

I watch my 3-year old granddaughter everyday and she is at the age where she wants to be involved in everything—because she THINKS she CAN do everything….so I have been trying to come up with a fun Easter craft that we could do together that wouldn't get her too frustrated.

I bought some styrofoam cups and we punched holes into the sides and put a pipe cleaner through the holes to make a handle.

I bought a bunch of Easter stickers and we got out all sorts of markers and glitter and Lilli decorated the "baskets". She literally spent hours working on these as they were something easy for her to do without much help. We then filled them with Easter grass and some candy and wrapped them in cellophane and tied pretty pastel ribbons around them and now she can't wait to give them to everyone who comes over on Easter Sunday!

It doesn't cost a lot of money to entertain kids, plus it's a great way to get them involved in being creative-and sharing!
