Sophia’s 40 Day Challenge: Be a Bucket Filler

by MHSjennie on October 19, 2015

Cody’s school has done a Pay it Forward Challenge the last two years. It is all about being a bucket filler and showing random acts of kindness to those around you. This challenge started all because of this beautiful little girl Sophia who was taken from this earth far too early. I was so touched by this story and wanted to share it with you all. As a mom, we have all been through trials and tribulations with our kids. Some of us have had issues conceiving, some of us have suffered miscarriages, and some of us have given birth to kids that we have then lost.

Sophia's 40 Day Challenge

Sophia Jane Smallwood was born on October 9th, 2010 in Dayton Ohio. She made her home at
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center Cardian ICU where she won the hearts of all. She fought hard to overcome her battles with multiple heart defects but lost her battle after 40 amazing days. On November 17th, 2010 Sophia was wheeled away for her heart surgery where she passed away. This families world was changed in an instant.

To honor her life on earth, Sophia’s family created Sophia’s Team and Sophia’s 40 Day Challenge: Pay It Forward  in memory of Sophia’s 40 Day life. They celebrate the moments that made up her 40 Days as well as encourage others to perform random acts of kindness wherever they may be. The challenge is now! Join them on their fight, raise funds and spread awareness about CHD through Sophia’s Story.

Sophia’s Team is a Non-Profit Organization that was founded in 2010 after the loss of their daughter Sophia Jane. After realizing a family’s life can change in an instant with the diagnosis of a Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) they hope to provide awareness and support to other families that find themselves in extended hospital stays and new medical situations.

You can read all about Sophia and her namesake legacy: Sophia’s Team on Facebook and join their Facebook Event Page.

It is all about paying it forward and this is a great message to teach the kids about being a Bucket Filler.  We have been talking about this a lot at home, following along with the challenge at school. I found this great website that gives some awesome ideas to teach kids how to be a bucket filler and an adorable pic you can print off at home!
