I Love Lucy Live On Stage at the Aronoff

I Love Lucy

I had the opportunity to watch the opening night of I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE. They adapted the show from the beloved I Love Lucy program in television history and it was HILARIOUS! America’s favorite foursome – Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel – is live on stage and in color for the very first time!

An “out-of-body experience for ‘Lucy’ fans” according to Showbiz Chicago. I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE takes audience members back to 1952 as members of the Desilu Playhouse studio audience where they await the filming of two hilarious and oh-so-familiar I LOVE LUCY® episodes, “The Benefit” and “Lucy Has Her Eyes Examined.” A charming host entertains and enlightens the crowd to the behind-the-scenes filming process of a brand new thing called “television,” the Crystaltone Singers perform advertising jingles in perfect 50s style harmony and the sidesplitting antics of America’s favorite foursome – Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel. It’s a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience TV Guide’s William Keck calls “the most entertaining stage production I’ve seen in years – including Broadway!”

I personally had never seen an episode of I Love Lucy, but I know that is was an extremely popular show and there were so many fans at the theater opening night. I loved that they opened the show like we were the audience members watching the Live Show unfold. They interacted with us and even had an actress playing an audience member. Halfway through the show they had the actress playing an audience member and an ACTUAL audience member play against each other in a trivia contest, on stage! I really enjoyed being apart of the show! The characters were so dynamic and charismatic and the music sang by “Ricky” was phenomenal.

I really wasn’t sure if I would connect to the show since I had never seen the television program, but I did. The live commercials in between segments, the music and commentator all made it feel so real. It actually made me wish my grandparents could have been there with me… they would have LOVED it! I would highly recommend this show as a GNO or date night! It will not disappoint!
