DIY Whipped Body Butter

by Jennie on December 5, 2013

I love that I can use my essential oils to make DIY bath, body and cleaning products!! How scary is it to look at the ingredients list on any products we buy in the store and not know how to pronounce the words or what those chemicals actually do to our bodies! I like checking out the Cosmetic Database which rates products for you based on their toxicity level, but what I find even better is to just make it myself (if I can)!! Not only do you know exactly what is in the DIY product, but it is just a fraction of the cost of its store bought counterpart!

Ever since I switched to more natural lotions, I haven’t felt like they moisturize my skin the way I wanted it to so when I found this whipped body butter recipe, it not only looked divine, but seemed extremely moisturizing because of the ingredients used!

Ingredients

1/2 cup Shea Butter
1/2 cup Cocoa Butter
1/2 Cup Coconut Oil
1/2 cup Fractionated Coconut Oil
30 drops of your favorite doTERRA essential oil (you can use several different oils in one batch)

Directions

  • Measure all oils and butters in a glass container
  • Add some water to a skillet and let it boil. Add your glass container to the skillet, creating a double boiler. Stir until all oils and butters are melted and mixed well.

  • Once everything is melted remove and let cool in the fridge.
  • Add oils. I don’t add my oils until cooled because the medicinal properties can be lost when added to heat.
  • Put your mixture into a stand mixer and start slow and increase speed. I had to beat mine for 10 minutes so just allow it to mix until whipped and fluffy!DIY whipped body butter

  • Store in a glass jar and enjoy!!! I reused one of my old canning jars which worked perfectly!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this body butter!!! It is SO moisturizing and very easy to make! I use this daily and after a month I still have enough left for another month. I bought my Shea, Cocoa and Fractionated Coconut oil from Whole Foods, but my absolute favorite Coconut Oil is from Tropical Traditions! I can tell a huge difference between the coconut oil I get from there vs. organic brands at the store.

I would love to hear about ways you use your Essential Oils! I have been amazed at how they are changing my life and would love for you to share how they have changed yours! Not ALL ESSENTIAL OILS are created equal. Oils can say 100% pure therapeutic grade and not be completely pure. I highly recommend to do your own research! doTERRA Oils are Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade and is tested on 6 different levels for their purity. If you have any questions or need help locating the right oil for your own particular health issues please send me an email and be sure to check out my website for all things doTERRA!
