Reading is an all time favorite in our house, one of Emma’s first signs has been “book” and both kids love reading time, especially before bedtime. For a while we would take turns reading in Luke and Emma’s rooms but Julian had the idea of find a common place to “meet” the kids for story time in the evenings. You can easily create a fantastic little reading nook for your kids anywhere in the house without spending much money!
1. Choose a comfy place anywhere in your home. We chose the landing because it’s roomy and we already have a small couch there with room for everyone. It’s also a nice place for Grandparents to join in who are here often for story time!
2. Make it MAGICAL. We found some pretty white lights to hang above the windows and it added the right amount of sparkle in the evenings. We also took some of the kid’s favorite book covers and framed them for the walls making it cozy and fun for the kids. Seeing Luke’s eyes light up when it was all done was indeed…magical.
3. Add your favorite books! We already had a spare tall bookshelf from Ikea that we were not using so we turned it into a “book shelf” and put Emma’s board books at the very bottom, with Luke’s favorites on the higher shelves. It’s fun to change them out according to the season. You could easily add a book basket of wrapped Christmas books that the kids unwrap one each night leading up to Christmas to add something fun and different to story time.
Where do your kids love reading? In a tent? Under the covers with a flash light?
