Resurrection Cookies For Easter

by Jennie on April 4, 2013

This is our first year of Preschool so it was our first true spring break. I have to say that I LOVED having the time off from having to run Cody to school and it was nice to not HAVE to be anywhere. Here is some of our Spring Break highlights:

  • Helicopter Egg Drop: this was AMAZING! A local church put this on and everything was FREE (which I love)! They had games inside, the Easter bunny with free pics outside and then a helicopter came by and dropped eggs down for the Easter egg hunt.I was really impressed by how cool it was, you can imagine the kids reaction! They LOVED it!!
  • Family bible study: I absolutely love this time we have as a family. We do the study with 3 other families, we eat dinner together and then we have adult study and then a short lesson with the kids. This week we did Resurrection Eggs. I had never heard of this, but totally awesome!! You make them once and can tell the story to the kids every year.
  • Mommy and me classes at The Little Gym. I love that I can take a class with Grayson and Cody can hang out and play in the waiting area. They always have a teacher out there to watch the older kids :)
  • Swimming at Lifetime. We have a membership there and I have to say I LOVE it! Very family oriented, great prices and rewards for being a member. Both the boys LOVE the water. Cody is swimming like crazy and it is actually cool seeing him loving the water so much. I do have to keep a close eye on Grayson though because he has no fear to begin with and then he sees his brother diving and swimming under water so he thinks he can do it too!! They have an amazing cafe there with the most delicious, healthy food so we grab lunch there when we can!

  • Story time at Barnes and Noble. We go to our local library as much as we can for story time and I have to say that compared to that, I was really disappointed in the B&N story time. Our local library sings songs with musical instruments, has an educational craft and reads several stories (in addition to puppets etc. depending on the theme) and the only thing B&N did was one book and a craft. We were there for a total of 20 min. if that and it was over. They do have a train table there that the kids can play on, but I would probably not choose to go back there unless we had nothing else to do.

barnes and noble story time

As you can see, Cody enjoyed himself.. guess that’s all that matters!

  • Easter fun: we had lots planned to get us in the Easter spirit. I had Easter bunny crafts for the boys, then we dyed eggs, made our annual Easter bunny cake (the same one my mom use to make with us when we were little), made Resurrection cookies (which is another amazing way to tell the story!), and finished up with roasting marshmallows by the fire :)

Cody wanted a really colorful Easter bunny this year :)

After making the cookies, we sealed the oven up with lots of tape :)

The next morning, our cookies looked the same, but the center was empty which represents Jesus’ tomb which was empty because He has RISEN!

fire pit

There is nothing like a fire!! One of our family favs :)

  • Easter Day: We went to church, got together with the family, had dinner and finished up with an Easter Egg hunt. Steve and I concluded the night by watching the first show of The Bible series (we taped them all over the last few weeks so I am looking forward to watching the series)!

Needless to say we were all a little exhausted come Monday and it was back to the grind. What did you do over break? Did you stay home or venture out? Vacation or Staycation?

The Helicopter Egg Drop was AMAZING! We will be doing this with you every year. Scott and I loved it as much as the kids! Very Neat! You should have posted a pic! Can’t wait to come to lifetime sometime to swim! And still wondering how those cookies ended up hollow inside. :)
