We had a lot of fun over the Holidays connecting with our family in England over Skype, Luke was even able to connect with his 5 year old cousin and they loved showing each other their favorite toys. We are always telling family and friends how great the city of Cincinnati is, especially for families with children! There is so much to do and we hope one day we’ll be able to show them all the great sites of this beautiful city.
Until then, we have come across two fabulous books that show the wonderful spirit of the Queen City and we are planning to send them over for Luke’s cousin to enjoy for his upcoming birthday in February! The first one we’ve fallen in love with is: Cincinnati Our City, Our Story. Developed by the Cincinnati Storyteller’s Project, the book was a big collaborative project. Author Louise Borden donated her talents to write the text, local artists Loren Long, Will Hillenbrand, and C.F. Payne donated their talents to collaborate on cover artwork and blue manatee press donated publishing services. Best of all? All of the illustrations in the book are by area children!

The book is $16.99 and 100% of the wholesale proceeds will go to Every Child Succeeds, a local nonprofit that works to offer high risk families in the area support to ensure an optimal start for their children. You can get your own online or stop into Blue Manatee bookstore if you’re local!
The second book is called: Harriett’s Homecoming. Join Harriett on her adventure as she searches for home and visits many sights in Ohio’s queen city, including the Cincinnati Museum Center, the Krohn Conservatory, and Findlay Market. Harriett knows that her nest is near Fountain Square, but how will she get there? Young readers will enjoy this fun, informative, and beautifully illustrated tour of notable Cincinnati landmarks. Luke loved this charming book and picking out all the landmarks of Cincinnati that we’ve visited!

Do you have any favorite books about your hometown?
We also have some favorites sent to us from our Cape Cod family about how they harvest cranberries and we’ve been collecting the “Goodnight Washington DC” and “Goodnight Cape Cod” books from favorite places we’ve been.
We hope you love these book recommendations as much as we have! Let us know if you have any new books your family has enjoyed so we can add them to our reading list! Happy New Year everyone!
