Emma’s 2nd Trip to the Doc!

by Kimberly on January 21, 2013

For the last week we’ve all been fighting colds…Luke’s turned into an ear infection, Emma’s started bronchitis. Luke is thankfully feeling a lot better but poor little Emma has gotten worse over the weekend and after being up with her ALL night long (again!) we couldn’t wait for the pediatrician to open this morning so we could take her back to the doc to check on her.

We have been massaging Lavender essential oil (diluted with Coconut Oil, since I use that as her moisturizer) on her chest and feet since it is known to help with respiratory issues and that did seem to help a little along with a cool air humidifier.

By the time she got to the doc this morning she had also developed an ear infection and she was full of snot and sounded terribly wheezy. The nurse was able to use a suction machine and get a lot of mucus out by using a small tube down her nose. photo(8)

It wasn’t fun and she didn’t like it but it was quick and effective and seemed to really help! The thing I’m most nervous about is giving her the penicillin for her ear infection…since Luke was allergic I’m hoping Emma is NOT allergic because discovering that he couldn’t have penicillin is a memory I would rather not re-live.  Keep your fingers crossed for us that we don’t add a penicillin allergy to her bronchitis and ear infection!

I can tell that getting some of that mucus out really helped her because she is currently taking the LONGEST nap she’s had in the last 10 days…going on 3 hours! She is the most comfortable she’s been in the last few days and we are jumping with joy! There’s nothing more miserable than when your kids are sick and you just want to fix it for them!

One thing that has been a life saver for us has been this Rock n’ Play bed because it is inclined and she can sleep comfortably in this so we’ve temporarily taken her out of her crib to sleep back in our room to keep a close eye on her while she’s been under the weather.

I guess this is just the beginning of new germs coming home thanks to Big Brother going to school! Tis’ the season for germs, colds and the flu! Are you at home with a sick kiddo? I hear that Local Raw Honey and Cinnamon seem to be helping with colds, and Crunchy Savings has a great elderberry syrup that she keeps on hand to help prevent and treat colds! Any other home remedies out there that work well for your family?
