What is a Lip Tie?

Lip TieLip Tie

You are looking at it. As you read this we will be heading on a plane from Albany, NY to home. Why you ask? WELL, a few weeks ago I read an article from Ashley (an AMAZING Lactation Consultant, owner of Blue Cocoon) about Tongue Ties. I think we have all heard about this, but included in the article was something called Lip Tie. Something drew me to the article as soon as I saw that name. I had an inkling something was going on when Grayson got his teeth just a few months ago. You couldn’t see his teeth when he smiled. When I read Ashley’s article, I knew right away that it is what Grayson had. It is called a Lip Tie, pictured above.

VERY LONG story short, we had to go to Albany, NY to see Dr. Kotlow so that my little man could get his Lip Tie fixed. I have done a lot of research and talked to many different people about it and once I am home, I will write a complete post about everything! I want to bring awareness to this, in hopes that I can shed some light on the topic that it seems few people are talking about. I will say that little Grayson’s lip tie is a pretty severe case and so severe action needed to be taken, thus our road trip to NY :) I know this is not the case for everyone. I am writing this on Monday, so I hope to know more after we see the doctor in NY and hope that I can have more answers for you.

If there is anyone reading this who suspects their child has the same thing, please start doing some research and check back often, as I hope to have more information posted for you. Feel free to leave a comment with your email and I will make sure you get the next post. Also, if you have any information on lip tie or have your own personal story, please leave a comment or email me at jennieandkim@gmail.com. You can also check out Ashley’s fb page she just started on lip and tongue tied.

Hey Jennie,

Just want to wish you all luck with everything. And to share with you that I had heard your story, looked at Jacoby, who is 9 months now, and found that his is almost as bad as Cody’s. I took him in for a physical just the other day and had the doctor tell me that yes indeed he does have a lip tie. Our doctor here in Phoenix told us not to do anything about it unless its causing dental or eating problems. I thought to myself, but I don’t want my child to live with a gap in between his two front teeth. I don’t know in the end what we will do but I know your situation had reached a point where you DID need to take action…so of course I will be following your posts about this to hear all about the outcome and if you feel it was all worth it. Again, good luck to you and your little man!

Sorry to hear this Dwan! I will have a full report on this. It is def not a black and white issue. Hopefully, after doing your research, you can make a decision that you can feel comfortable with. Feel free to call me if you need anything! Good Luck!Sent from my iPad
