24 Weeks and Counting!

by Kimberly on June 1, 2012

I can’t believe how quickly this pregnancy has gone by so far – I’m already at 24 weeks and so far feeling pretty good. I am dreading this hot muggy summer weather, thank goodness for air conditioning! This pregnancy has been quite different than with Luke for many reasons (they’re never the same are they?!). I’m definitely so very blessed for the few close friends and family (you know who you are…Thank YOU!) who have taken such great care of this preggo mama, even though it’s my second I still feel like you need just as much support but you are easily forgotten since you’ve been through it before. I have so appreciated the texts and phone calls asking how the pregnancy has been going, how was I feeling, etc. I have no problem taking time out for myself to put my feet up and most days when Luke naps I am right there with him taking my nap too! I have loved J working from home because most afternoons he makes me lunch and that is a godsend when you just need to relax and take a break! I was having some issues with the left side of my spine recently and went had a fantastic massage with Marguerite at Kneeding Palms Massage in Lebanon, she is so wonderful and gives me some much needed time to relax and focus on taking care of myself and this precious little girl I’m carrying. She gave me some great advice on my back and it hasn’t bothered me since I saw her which is a huge relief!

6 Months! Julian took this of me this morning...gotta love the PJ's!

As far as cravings go…at the moment it is anything peanut butter. I am guessing it’s my body’s way of needing more protein! I made these peanut butter cookies I saw over at Take 10 With Tricia and they are delicious! (You can find the recipe for them here.)  I am also loving these two new teas that Auntie Claire brought me recently! The Iced Tea with Mint is my favorite because it’s so nice to be able to drink something different that’s so refreshing and easy to make! I have been having one cup of the Pomegranate & Raspberry every night to unwind and it’s another favorite at the moment. I’m not sure if both of these new teas are out on the market yet but keep a look out for them, they are both wonderful!

Thanks Claire!!

Thankfully I haven’t been having any more nausea since I was 15 weeks and I’m SO grateful to be over that, it was torture chasing after Luke and feeling so terrible! On the upside, I haven’t had any contractions and minimal swelling of my feet so far. This baby girl is moving ALL the time and last night was the second night so far that she kept me awake for 1.5 hours when I was trying to fall asleep. She is just too busy in there kicking and dancing to sleep! Thankfully, once I do fall asleep I sleep straight through until morning…rarely even getting up to pee (which is normal for me)!

Luke has been so wonderful in taking care of his Mama, he regularly tells me “I’ll take care of you Mommy” in such a caring way and brings me blankets, pillows, kisses, you name it! If I am resting he comes to check on me and asks “Are you okay? Do you need anything?” He talks about how excited he is for his new baby sister and he has been in his new big boy room for over a week and loving every minute of it. He has helped put all the gifts we’ve received into what is now his “old room” and tells me all the ways he’s going to take care of his little sis too. I’m so grateful we changed his room when we did because it was getting a little awkward on the nights I had to do bedtime with him since I had to sit in the chair and he had to either sit or stand next to me on the floor. It wasn’t too comfortable to sit in the floor with him so now we can sit and cuddle in his bigger bed with no problems!

So far so good with this pregnancy, I have my next scan and glucose test at next month’s 28 week check up and we will hope and keep our fingers crossed that the marginal previa has resolved itself and I can skip the c-section. We are meeting with our Doula tonight and I have started getting out the Bradley books to brush up on relaxation during birth. Did you know that a Doula can also help tremendously with a c-section? I had no idea but I guess you’re still going to need just as much support with major surgery!

All in all, I feel pretty good and can’t believe we only have another 16 weeks left until we meet this little girl! We are planning to enjoy Summer but keep it quiet and enjoy the calm before the storm with bringing a new baby home.

You're right – it is flying by!! We are so excited about welcoming this baby girl and are already counting down the days! We spent a lot of time over the weekend getting the toddler bed back to a crib and bringing out some of those baby things ready for her! I'm so glad I don't have to redecorate…phew! I'm already too tired to do my usual routines so that makes it super easy for us! :) I hope I can stay cool this summer! -K
