Unplug… Day Two

by Jennie on February 3, 2012

I really want to focus this year on posting about my New Year’s Resolutions. Of course I will post other things as well, but I want to keep myself accountable and try to stick to what goals I made for the year. If I blog about it, then I am more apt to do it and continue it… hopefully!

One thing I have been talking about is unplugging a day a week. I have found that it is harder than I think. All my recipes are online, all my how-tos are online and sometimes I have to make phone calls that just can’t wait until tomorrow. I have really been trying and have cut myself a little slack if I need to check something, like a recipe for example, that is online. I get on the web, get my recipe and then I am off again. No looking at all my emails or surfing the net for something else. We all know that can lead to another hour-long journey exploring the web.

I have noticed that on the days I am not unplugged, I do find myself doing less on the computer and my phone. It is really freeing actually. I feel much better about it as the days go on and, of course, Cody loves it because you know how the kids get when you hop on the phone or open your lap top up… can I say devil child?? O.k. well maybe yours doesn’t, but mine does!

One thing that I have started doing that has been helping tremendously is cleaning out my inbox. Take a look at yours and see what emails you are deleting on a regular basis and never opening up. If a week goes by and you have deleted that same email without opening (ie. Celebrity iVillage… I don’t have time for that!), then open that sucker up and unsubscribe from it! I have been doing this over a two-week time, slowly but surely because I don’t want it to be overwhelming, and it has cut down a lot of time I spend on my email. I can now see what I need and I don’t have a ton of junk coming to me!

The other thing you can do is send emails you do want to read into a predetermined folder. That way, when you have time to read you can go to those particular folders such as  “baby sleep”or “DIY projects” and it isn’t junking up your email.

When mama is happy...everyone is happy :)

Try it! See how much you can clean out that inbox and how freeing it is!!
Any tips on how to unplug a little from all the electronics?

Oh I so do the unsubscribe thing! As I am moving onto a new role in my company there are a lot of emails I am getting that I just won't need to read anymore! I LOVE IT!

Love the PIC too! Can't wait to see you tomorrow!
