Since all I feel like I have been doing is preparing for this new little one to come, I thought it only appropriate to feature this guest post about “Preparing for Baby Inside and Out”. I love the little tips and tricks because I am a HUGE planner and love to have things organized and ready to go for as much as I can! Having a baby is no different :) Maria Davis, our guest post feature today, is a freelance interior designer and writer. She is primarily a stay-at-home mom who loves to work on projects of all kinds, especially with her 2 kids. Feel free toemail her at mariaeadavis@gmail.com with any questions or comments!

The minute you find out your pregnant, two things will happen. You’ll want to begin preparing for the baby’s arrival, and you’ll panic because you’re not ready for the baby’s arrival. Relax. You do have plenty of time to get ready, even if you’re several weeks along. But the sooner you begin, the more you’ll be able to focus on the baby when he or she is born. The first thing you need to do is make sure you’re getting the proper nutrition. The second priority is getting your home ready for the new family member. But don’t worry. You have plenty of resources available to you. Here are just a couple of things to do when you’re preparing for your baby, inside and out.

Start Taking Vitamins

If you already take a daily multivitamin, you’re ahead of the game. You already know that women have specific nutritional needs. But those needs change when you’re pregnant. The optimal amounts of certain vitamins and minerals change to promote your baby’s growth and health. The great thing is, you don’t have to try to figure it out yourself. You just need prenatal vitamins. They’re readily available in many places, from grocery stores to specialty health stores, but they can be expensive.

You want to do what’s best for your baby, but you don’t want to spend his college fund on vitamins, either. Check out some of the online health stores that offer deep discounts. An even better way to go is with a company that sells its own products rather than resellers that take a cut of the profits. For example, Puritan’s Pride has its own line of vitamins and supplements, including prenatal vitamins. Add a Puritan’s Pride coupon code to an online sale, and you’ll save even more. Then you can put the money you save into that college fund.

Make Room For Baby

Ideally, your baby will have her own room where she sleeps, where you keep all her toys and other baby necessities, and where she can grow up and be comfortable. If you don’t have an extra room in your home, and you either can’t or don’t want to move, you need to decide where everything’s going to go once the baby arrives. You’ll want to do this now because once the baby comes home, you won’t have time for remodeling or rearranging your home. Let’s be honest, you’ll be lucky if you have time to sleep.

If you decide to keep your baby’s crib in your master bedroom where you can easily attend to her, you can make one little corner of the room baby-friendly. To save space, consider a crib/changing table combo rather than two separate pieces of furniture. Or, for longer-term use, get a crib that converts into a toddler day bed. You’ll get more for your money by choosing multi-purpose items. You can save even more by looking for sales and discounts. Babies “R” Us is one of the biggest baby stores around. Look for a Babies “R” Us promo code, and use it during a sale for double the savings.

Providing the best for your baby doesn’t have to mean going broke. You can find high-quality items at great prices, and with some savvy shopping, have enough left over for a fabulous maternity wardrobe.
