Easy Freezer Meals

by Jennie on August 8, 2011

If you read this blog, you know that I  am a little OCD, like to have control and very much a planner! We can schedule posts on the blog and one thing I have done to “plan” around this baby’s arrival is I have written several posts and scheduled them just in case I go into labor!! SO, I am one day past my due date and I am either in the hospital having my little guy or still big and pregnant! Either way, I wanted to share a great link I found for freezer meals that I thought you would all love!

I use to get dream dinners when I was pregnant with Cody and it was a lifesaver!! Now that I am a little more picky about what food I buy and where my meat comes from, I decided to make my own freezer meals to prepare for the arrival of little boy #2. I think one of the best things you can do when you are preparing for a baby is to have some freezer meals because you know cooking is the LAST thing you want to do when you are exhausted and have a newborn attached to you 24-7! To save us from ordering pizza every night (which is totally what would happen) I started looking for freezer meals I could make before baby boy arrives.

A few of my freezer meals!

Kim and I shared our success on our all day cooking fest for freezer meals and that is what we were going to do again… BUT as I got bigger and more uncomfortable, cooking for 12 hours straight DID NOT SOUND FUN! I ended up finding a great alternative.. meals you can make for the freezer without having to cook them first! Less time and prep= good enough for me! I also found some other ways to have some healthy, easy meals for when the baby comes!!

  • I first went through this list from OAMM which are meals you can prepare for the freezer, but not have to cook first. She includes the labels to print off so you know how to cook them when you pull them from the freezer! I got a TON of meals from this!!
  • Crock pot= friend! Here is a great website I found where the author used her crock pot every day for a year! Some great recipes.. and there is nothing easier than throwing everything in the crock pot in the am and it is done in time for dinner!
  • Roasts: get a roast and throw in carrots, onions, etc. in a ziploc and freeze (no need to cook before assembly)
  • Wild Tree: a company that has healthy convenience foods. I stocked up on spices, desserts etc.
  • Great link to freezer mashed potatoes: I haven’t tried them yet, but hoping they turned out o.k.!!
  • Costco: I ended up getting a costco membership because they have some AWESOME deals on organic food. I saved a good deal of money and was able to stockpile food up for the next several months:
  1. I got a ton of organic tomato paste, sauce and crushed tomatoes, along with spaghetti and frozen meatballs so I can make spaghetti (easy meal but the meatballs spice it up a little!)
  2. Frozen organic veggies (great for sides and stays good in the freezer forever!)
  3. Healthy kashi frozen pizzas, quiches and veggie burgers
  4. Stocked up on bread and sandwich thins for burgers etc. Keep them in the freezer and they stay good forever :) Then just pull out what you need for your meal
  5. Healthy snacks: Annies snacks, goldfish, cheerios, veggie straws, fruit crisps, dried fruit and nuts etc. which stay good in the pantry for a long time
  6. Veggie sausage for breakfast. Get whole grain english muffins for a DIY sausage, egg, cheese etc. muffin
  7. Healthy pancake/ waffle mix. Make a big batch on the weekend and leftovers in the freezer for quick breakfast during the week.
  • Green Bean Delivery: I figure I have all my main meals and I can get my milk, eggs and produce from Green Bean so essentially I don’t really HAVE to go to the store for months!! YEAH BABY!! If you want to try GB follow the link provided for info on how to save 50% on your first bin :)
If you want to stock your freezer, I do recommend making a Freezer List of all the items you have so you can stay organized (o.k. so I admitted I am OCD and anal…. don’t make fun of me!)

I hope this gives you some ideas to make your food prep a little easier.  Let me know if you have any questions. I would love to hear your favorite freezer meals or ways you make meal time/ planning a little easier on yourself!!
