Stress and pregnancy

Stress during pregnancy is normal but that does not mean you can’t find ways to try to relieve these stresses and strains. Pregnancy is a time of changes, stresses and worries regarding how you and your partner will deal with this change. You are entering into a different phase of your life where a lot of your freedom is taken away.

The main physical symptoms of stress are increased heart rate, blood pressure and muscle tension. These are our bodies’ reaction to the stress; this really is a survival instinct that dates way back to our ancestors. These symptoms can be difficult to deal with when they are a regular occurrence. Prolonged stress levels can bring negative health consequences.

What are the best ways to combat and relieve stress during pregnancy?

    • Make time for yourself every day – Even if you keep a busy lifestyle during pregnancy make sure you have a least an hour a day you can call your own.  Do whatever you like, watching TV, going for a walk or visiting or phoning a friend. You need this time for yourself every day.
    • Exercise is really important during pregnancy – in the past too many women have been told to rest all the time but exercise is important to help maintain a healthy weight.  It also helps mood levels and is a big stress buster! Get exercise into your daily routine and choose an exercise that you will enjoy.
    • Antenatal classes – Can help relieve stress about the birth. They give you plenty of help about birthing positions, help with breastfeeding and information on epidurals and c sections.  You may be able to visit the delivery suite and get a quick tour of the facilities there.
    • Plan for family life – talk about how you are going to cope with a new baby around with your partner. Don’t be scared to ask family and friends for help. Good planning can really be a big stress reliever. Getting big decision made early gives you peace of mind!
    • Money! Planning you finances will help relieve stresses and worries about the future.

      Hey Jennie,
Thank you for sharing this incredible post with us.
Pregnancy is such a delicate stage and people should care about everything at this period. Eating healthy, little exercise and drinking water should be daily routine during this period
