My Battle with “Infertility”… Part 2

by Jennie on February 23, 2011

A few weeks ago I shared my looonnnggg story of how we were blessed with our Code Man! I talked about how we were wanting to try for another once Cody turned 2. We weren’t preventing ever since Cody was born in hopes that it would happen naturally. I nursed Cody for a year so I had no periods during that time. I was in high hopes that the pregnancy and giving birth would whip my body back into shape and it would start doing what it was suppose to be doing. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. My main goal was to try and have a period so after a year of that not happening I felt it was time to take things into my own hands!

If you have been reading this blog for a while you probably know that I am a little crazy! I am very into the earth, natural living and alternative medicine and therapies. SO keep that in mind and bear with me for this next bit of info :)  I heard years ago about this amish man, Solomon Wickey, who is considered a healer in the minds of many people. I had heard passed down stories and personal stories about this man and I totally wanted to see him. Unfortunately, he wasn’t seeing people when I was trying to get preggers with Cody but I did think about him when I wasn’t getting a period after I had Cody. I found his contact information, made an appointment and I went to see him. Long story short…. 10 days later, I started my period! YES, I was completely amazed and in awe! So I basically started having a period every other month (which is normal for a PCOS girl) since I went to see him and things were going good.

With all of our issues we had conceiving Cody I decided to make an appointment with my OB just to discuss our plan of action for the next one. He put me on glucophage (a med to help PCOS) a few months before I had my meeting with him. (On a side note- for those of you suffering from PCOS- I am NOT big on meds but I did find that this helped me to lose weight- almost 10 pounds immediately. When you have PCOS your body holds on to sugars differently and one of the side effects is weight gain and the inability to get it off easily. I do recommend this med for the weight thing and to see if it helps get your cycles regular). Once I met up with my OB we felt that the next thing to do was a procedure called an HSG- this allows the doc to see if your tubes are open, if things are working properly and it has been know that women get pregnant right after these procedures because it “cleans you out” for lack of a better word! He said that once I started my next period to call and  make the appointment. He did ask that I take a pregnancy test just to be on the safe side (you should not be pregnant if you get this procedure). I never took a test because HELLO?! You read my story! So I just waited for my period and I started spotting right on time. I called and made my appointment for the following Monday. Weird thing happened though… the spotting stopped a few hours later and then nothing.  UH OH! Here we go… it may sound funny but I was wishing and hoping for periods so when I started and then stopped I thought my body was going to start screwing up again. I figured I would give it a few days and call the doc if I didn’t start again. Three days later I received some pregnancy tests on my doorstep from a company who wanted us to review them on the blog. Since my test was scheduled for Monday I figured I may as well take one in the morning since the doc asked me to….. what do you think happened next?….

YUP! I woke up the next morning, whipped out the prego test and starting peeing on the stick. I was asking Cody what he wanted for breakfast when I looked over and had to do a double take…. THERE WERE TWO LINES!!!! I had to read the box a few times because I couldn’t believe 2 lines meant A POSITIVE TEST! Of course I started bawling and said to Cody through the tears “We have to call daddy!!!!” I called Steve, who thought something was wrong because I was a blubbering mess, and then I spilled the beans! He was speechless :)

At this point, we were both in shock. I called my OB and they wanted to get me in that day with the bleeding I had a few days before and I was concerned with my history. A few hours later we are in the ultrasound room and there it is… my baby on the screen, strong heartbeat and looking good. Yeah, I know… crazy right?!

So we waited to really tell anyone until our next ultrasound (three weeks later) and with God’s grace, the baby was growing and looking good! They told us that I was 12 weeks and 2 days pregnant! Estimated due date: Aug 8th!

Looking back, I was 9 weeks before I took that test and probably wouldn’t have taken one unless I had that procedure scheduled and unless I received those pregnancy tests! I was feeling sick and tired, but I thought I had the flu that was going around! I just NEVER in a million years thought my feeling that way meant I was preggers so I didn’t even think about it!

After all is said and done, I have to say it is truly a miracle that it happened just like that for me this time. I never thought (I did dream though!) I would be the girl to take the pregnancy test and say “oh my, I’m pregnant”! I guess anything can happen! I do attribute this to my amish healer (you can laugh at me if you want!) and the hubs of course :) Seriously though, we are so happy and feel so blessed that we were able to bypass all the other stuff this time and are thrilled for our new little addition to come into our lives and that we will soon be a family of 4! As of this week I am 4 months so I will keep you posted! I have been sick, tired and hormone crazy but the fog has been lifting over the last few days so maybe I will start feeling on the up and up soon! Either way, it is ALL worth it!!!!! Thanks for taking the time to read my story and for your support! I hope my words can help to encourage you or someone you know who is battling “infertility” and give you hope!

I did want to review the pregnancy tests since I was able to use them :) We were given some pregnancy tests to try from the makers of the OV WATCH. They are called The OV-Watch® Early Detection Midstream Pregnancy Tests. What is so cool about these tests is that they detect the pregnancy hormone very early so you can use these up to five days before your missed period! The science behind it is really interesting and you can read all about it here. You can get a 3 pack on their website for only $14.99! You can’t beat it!!! You can purchase your own here. Thanks OV Watch for all the great things you are doing to help women who are trying to get pregnant! You really should check out the rest of the products on their site, especially if you are having troubles getting pregnant! Truly amazing!

Not sure if you can see this... 2 LINES!

I also just wanted to say that to anyone who is battling getting pregnant, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I am here for anyone who needs support or who has any questions. A great book I do recommend is “The Infertility Cure” by Randine Lewis Pd.D. It is a great holistic approach to infertility! Good Luck!!!

My Story is almost identical to yours. Except, we are at the stage as to whether to do IVF or not. We had a miscarriage a year ago and have not been able to get pregnant since. We are seeing a Fertility Specialist and have had 2 unsuccessful IUI's:(. I also have PCOS. Your story was very inspiring to me. I actually just saw a man named David, he studied under Solomon, and said that I was now healed. He feels strongly that I will be pregnant in 45 days. I want to believe so bad but of course am afraid to get my hopes up. Your story of getting pregnant with you 2nd gives me so much hope. Congrats on both!

Jennie, thanks for this blog. I read it, and i said phew, i am not alone. I don't have PCOS but i don't get a period and don't ovulate if i am off medication. Sometimes i don't even ovulate with medication! Our first baby came as a surprise after a round of Chinese medicine helped me ovulate. We are trying for a second one though many people tell me it is hard. I actually searched up the internet on Solomon after you mentioned him. I live in Japan so a trip to Indiana would be quite impossible. I would have to write to him. But i wanted to ask you, what was Solomon's advice when you visited him?
Meg, I am excited for you! Let's believe, believe, believe!

Clare. Thanks so much for reading! Kim and I both know how hard it is when you are trying for a baby and it doesn't come as easy as you thought it might. It helps, I think, to know that you are not the only one!!!! I will be thinking of you in your quest for a second and good luck to you! If you write to solomon (in your handwriting) and send him a pic, I have heard he will write you back with some suggestions etc. He also has many people who study under him and I have one of their email addresses. If you want, feel free to email us and I can get you the info. Solomon just basically laid his hands on me (I guess healing touch) and then told me that I would have no problems conceiving or starting a period. He was right…! Also, I went to see him after I found out I was pregnant (I think I was about 10-11 weeks along or so) and he told me I was having a boy- which I did. CRAZY! Again, feel free to email us if you need anything else. Take care of yourself and keep the faith. Also, I would love to hear about your chinese medicine round??
