Zumba Baby

by Jennie on November 9, 2010

I have always been “active” and have worked out off and on for years. I get into a good rhythm for a while and then fall off the wagon and so on and so on! Ever since my devastating news about my cholesterol, I have been trying to make it one of my main priorities to make sure that I get me work out on several days a week! I have been doing everything from walking, weights, bike riding, running and tapes I have at home. I need variety because I get bored so quick when it comes to exercising. My latest craze is ZUMBA!!!

I am just going to admit it… I am a sucker for infomercials. When I was a working gal I was WAY worse (b/c I had extra money to spend on that “must have” bumpit- that is right ladies, I have a bumpit!). Anyways, I have banned myself from watching any infomercials since we really don’t have the money to spend, however, it was my turn to sleep in and I was laying in bed and not ready to get up so I turned on the t.v. There it was….. a ZUMBA infomercial. I could not resist! I have heard so many awesome things about zumba and how much fun it is. I love to dance and thought this would be right up my alley. It was a little expensive, but much cheaper than paying $50- $70 a month for a gym membership where they hold zumba classes.

I received my tapes last week and could not wait to try it out. I followed the instructional video first and thought, NO WAY, I am sending this back. It was a little intimidating, although they do a great job showing you the moves. Then I tried out the 20 minute workout and actually thought I just might be able to do this! Not only that, but it was SO MUCH FUN! I didn’t even feel like I was working out. Today I did the cardio party which was more intense but such a BLAST! I am slowly catching on to the different moves and techniques and am able to just have fun with it. The music is great too! A lot of the moves incorporate the abs which is a huge problem area for me. I feel like even though I am losing weight, I still have that jelly belly that just won’t go away! I am hoping this will help. The other thing I love about the tapes is that each workout gives you the option to have the video with instructional help or the video for the “pro”. So really no matter what, you have someone helping you through the steps until you feel totally comfortable!

I have to say that I have A LOT of workout dvds and this one is at the top of my list. It is super fun, energetic and the music gets you pumped up. It is a great alternative for those of you who can’t afford an expensive gym membership and want to learn the moves in a more private setting. If you are not sure you would like this type of workout, see if you can take a sample class, borrow a video from a friend or see if your local library has one to check out. Let me know if you like it and I will keep you posted on my results!

I won the dvd set online before it was a huge craze and laughed when I won it. I ended up trying it and love it! I need to get back into doing it, babysitting during the day takes all my time, so I'm trying to get into working out again in the evening. Zumba is definately worth the money!
